2010 British Drumming Champions

About Camelon & District Pipe Band

Based in Falkirk, Camelon and District Pipe Band are a registered charity serving the local community teaching piping and drumming to people of all ages from 12 upwards. We offer a teaching system for all pipers and drummers and strive for our main aims and objectives of competitive playing. After being upgraded at the end of the 2010 season the band competes in Grade 4A under the auspices of the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association.

Gary (right) and Jason (left)The band is led by Pipe Major Gary Nimmo. Gary brings a wealth of experience as well as a desire and commitment to do well on the competition field. He is assisted in runing the band by Leading Drummer Lori Alves, and assisted in providing tuition by Charlie Finlay on the pipes and Andrew Thomson with the bass and tenor section. Both bring a great deal of experience and enthusiasm to the teaching of younger members of the band.

The primary focus of the band leadership is success on the competition field, however, the band also plays at local Galas, Weddings and other events both at home and abroad. The band was fortunate to play in France and Italy in 2009, and the Interceltic Festival of Avilés for 10 days in July 2010. Recently, the band returned to France in August 2011 after the World Pipe Band Championships, and hope to repeat this event in 2012.

We are very proud of the friendly and welcoming atmosphere we provide for players of all ages to come and play with us. After recent lean years the band has now rebuilt to over 30 members with various levels of ability. This is mostly thanks to our own in-house teaching and tutors as well as some more experienced players joining our ranks. The band also has a highly dedicated committee to ensure the band can continue to compete, perform at home and abroad and offer teaching to all youngsters. If you are interested in learning to play pipes or drums or perhaps you can already play and you're interested in joining us then please feel free to contact us.
